Hi William: Once tickets 23 and 21 are solved today, would you please  
have Luis Carlos create the samples described below. He will be doing  
this in parallel to Brady Morgan's efforts and that is fine with me.  
I figure Brady is the user #1 and Luis Carlos is user #2. With both  
people the quality of TM5 will improve as they find bugs and fix them  
along the way to building the examples.

Building the examples should take 1-2 days in my estimation.

I changed ticket 23 and closed 31 to respond to my need to have  
TestMaker 5 offer a live exception reporting feature for an operating  
load test, functional test, and service monitor. Currently exceptions  
are logged to the TestNode Tomcat catalina.out log file.

This is marked as a critical bug and is not a beta blocker. William  
proposes using the snapshot mechanism between the nodes and console  
to report exceptions. It is my hope that this appears in beta 2.

Any input or ideas on this would be great.

Sorry, Joseph, I didn't answer before. Had had a lot of work lately.
Yes, you cannot use addParameter since it is for RPC. Please note the attached PY file, it has an example of how to use the document style.
You need to create the XML using SAX and Element. Hope this example clarifies it.

Although the faultcode says "client", it is actually sending something to the server. The server response indicates a problem located in the client request is no letting the call to complete. 
It seems that the client is asking for an operation name that does not exist. I have seen this problem when you have an RPC oriented SOAP but your WSDL is document oriented and it is not wrapped (a trick from microsoft to make/tweak a document/literal call to create a RPC/literall SOAP message).
You can check the SOAp being sent by using TCPMonitor (comes with Axis). Or you can check the WSDL to detemine which style/encoding is using and the agent code to see how is it calling it.
Or, you can post the WSDL and the Agent so we can take a look at them
 
BWT, the WSDL recorder creates an agent that is totally working if the WSDL operation is RPC oriented. But if not, document oriented needs an XML as a body, and the recorder only leaves the statement there for you to fill it with an appropriate XML. So it is important to know if your WSDL is document oriented.

Hi all
 
                               I m able to successfully record web services (susiboats) which is deployed in my local system by giving WSDL URL , but while replaying the skeleton script which is created I found that it is not actually sending any request to server. I tried printing the response object it shows a faultcode from client side. 
I tried recording some other web services but it also end up in the same exception.

Hi Luis Carlos: About Bug 33, take a look at the summary.txt that is  
attached to the ticket. Import it into Excel. You will see that  
column L (the Server Network monitor value) contains two values  
because Tally did not insert a comma "," character. -Frank

Yes, you cannot use addParameter since it is for RPC. Please note the attached PY file, it has an example of how to use the document style.
You need to create the XML using SAX and Element. Hope this example clarifies it.

Welcome To The PushToTest TestMaker Version 5 Screencast. I am Frank  
Cohen, the founder and CEO of PushToTest.

PushToTest TestMaker is a platform for Service Oriented Architecture  
(SOA), Web service, and Web application governance and test  
automation. PushToTest TestMaker 5 delivers ease-of-use improvements  
and powerful root cause analysis and remediation solutions.

This screencast is for existing TestMaker users to explain the new  
features and changes.

First of all, you should know that TM 5 is backwardly compatible to  
TM4 scripts (show running the soap example script.) We also fixed  
several-long standing issues from TM 4, including the jCookie problem  
with international non-top-level domains. By the way, we have a new  
bug tracking service at bugs.pushtotest.com. (show it)

We were very happy to get InfoWorld's Excellent (8.7) rating on TM 4,  
(show it.) We often hear how powerful TM is and that power comes with  
a learning curve. We responded by focusing our efforts on making TM 5  
easier-of-use and increasing its power.

We made TM5 easier in 3 ways:

First, TM 5 integrates TestGen4Web (show it)  TestGen4Web is a plug- 
in to Firefox from our friends at Spikesource. The plug-in makes it  
easy to visually record unit tests of a Web application. TM5 turns  
these unit tests into functional tests, load tests, and service  
monitors.

For those of you that are unable to use Firefox, TM5 continues its  
support for the network Proxy Recorder system that watches you use  
Microsoft Internet Explorer or your desktop applications and writes a  
unit test script for you. (Click the New Agent icon to see these  
options.)

A second way we made TM5 easier is in our expanded support for  
languages. TestMaker 4 supports writing tests in Java and Jython.  
Jython is a 100% Java implementation of the Python language. Three  
years ago we began our effort to bring scripting for test creation on  
the Java platform to the world. TM is now the biggest distribution of  
the Jython scripting language. Our efforts have paid off, for example  
Java 6 now supports many dynamic scripting languages, AND NOW, so  
does TestMaker. In TestMaker 5 you may write tests in Java, JRuby,  
Groovy, Python, Rhino (JavaScript), Perl, PHP, and many others.

The third way we made TM easier to use is in the area of Web service  
testing. TM is a popular platform to test Web Services. TM 5  
integrates soapUI. (show it)

In summary we made TM5 easier-to-use by integrating TestGen4Web, by  
supporting many dynamic scripting languages, and by integrating  
soapUI. Next lets talk about the ways we made TM5 more powerful.

We made TM5 more powerful in 3 ways:

First, we integrated the TestNetwork environment. We previously sold  
TestNetwork as a commercial add-on into TM5. TestNetwork is now part  
of the free TM5 codebase.

TestNetwork operates TM5 tests in a distributed test environment. We  
call them TestNodes, they are free standing Web service-based  
environments that run TM5 tests. (show the architecture drawing in  
Firefox) There are 3 popular configurations of TestNodes.

First, on a software developer's local machine, a local instance of a  
TestNode operates functional, load tests, and service monitors. (Show  
TM5 Preferences) By default a TestNode starts on your local machine  
when TestMaker starts.

(Back to drawing) Second, in a QA setting, install a TestNode on each  
server in a rack of servers in a QA lab to conduct load testing.

Third, in an IT setting, install TestNodes at various locations  
around your network to prove Service Level Agreements by monitoring  
your services.

There are two additional ways we made TM5 more powerful.

TM5 introduces and supports a new XML-based TestScenario system to  
automatically turn unit tests into function tests, load tests, and  
service monitors without any additional effort. The lower left panel  
in TM5 is the new Controller system to graphically operate  
TestScenarios.

(Open load test 2, and describe the controller controls. Then show  
the already run load test 1 and point out the controls.) Controller  
features: buttons to start/stop/pause/edit/expand/and close a  
TestScenario, the slider show progress as a test operates and enables  
you to change the order of a test as it runs, scalability index  
charts, transaction distribution charts, and resource monitoring  
charts appear in the controller panel.

TestScenario's are the way in TM5 to define load tests, functional,  
and service monitors. In TM4 the XSTest package turned unit tests  
into scalability tests. XSTest is now part of the TestScenario  
system. TestScenarios are XML documents to provide all the operating

Lastly, TM5 introduces powerful new features to do root cause  
analysis and mitigation. One way TM5 does this is by providing an

when TM starts. Show Preferences. The monitor provides root-cause  
analysis and remediation to determine where and why bottlenecks to  
good performance exist.

The right panel displays the most recent snapshot values from the  
running TestNodes.

The "plus" icon indicates that there have been no errors in the past  
10 minutes. The threashold of 10 minutes is set in a new attribute of  
the <monitor> element in the TestScenario. For instance:

If an error happens within the past 10 minutes, the "plus" icon  
changes to an exclamation icon.

Sorry, Joseph, I didn't answer before. Had had a lot of work lately.
Yes, you cannot use addParameter since it is for RPC. Please note the attached PY file, it has an example of how to use the document style.
You need to create the XML using SAX and Element. Hope this example clarifies it.

great. Our tentative schedule looks like this:

This week - TestMaker Beta 1
Week of June 25 - Beta 2 and RC1
Week of July 9 - TestMaker 5 release

So we will plan to ship Beta 1 with Jython 2.1, then Beta 2 with  
Jython RC1, and then TestMaker 5 with Jython 2.2.

By the way, I can hardly contain my excitement that the Jython team  
is so close to 2.2! A wonderful moment!

Hi Melinda and Brady: We're getting very close to the Beta 1 release.  
Here's what I'm planning/thinking for docs. I'm open to your ideas.

1) The readme.html becomes QuickStart.html. It describes the changes  
since the last version and gives a link into tm5_home/docs/ 
introduction.html (the user's guide.)

2) tutorials.html gives a tutorial of using TestGen4Web and soapUI,  
building a TestScenario, and operating a load test.

3) screencasts: a) an introduction to TM5 for TM4 users, b) turning  
unit tests into functional tests, load tests, and service monitors,  
c) multiple protocol tests, d) SOA governance and test automation.

An idle icon and empty table of results would be fine. I'll come up

Duration = The time it took to run the test use case.

Thank him for the feedback. Originally I had a "thumbs-up" image. I  
then learned that holding one's thumb up in Iraq is an insult. I'll  
keep trying.

I would be ok with "checkTime" provided we are talking about the same  
thing. With a checkTime="600000" value, as the monitor runs, the icon  
is in a "service is up and running" position provided no exception  
was thrown in the previous 10 minutes (600,000 milliseconds).  
Otherwise the "service is in error state" icon appears.

The monitor panel looks great. I noticed that the table of live

The table in the Monitor controller panel is supposed to show a  
rolling list of rows of the most recently operated test cases.

I'm imagining a set of charts that shows the multiple test results.  
For instance, the scalability index chart for a load test has columns  
for CVUS and message sizes, These would still appear and the previous  
test run appears in the same chart. I don't know if that makes sense.  
The goal is for the user to be able to compare an improvement or  
reduction in performance.

Before you dig into 51, may I recommend: 49 (if its not yet done), 3,  
16, 34, 44. These are minor but painful to see.

My plan is to ship beta to users on Tuesday - I'm just waiting on

Performance testing is different from load testing in that the  
results compare the performance of a service from one time to  
another. How many times have we seen a new application server release  
with a marketing claim of "Now 30% faster!"

The attached proposal designs a utility to compare performance of a  
service from one run of a test to another. I think the design is very  
good. Please let me know your comments, feedback, and ideas.

Hi William: Thanks for answering the question, especially on a  
Sunday! A customer could have TestNodes installed all over a network  
and want to see that the Node is functional. So, the functional tests  
need to operate in a node. If you're just debugging a unit test you  
can use the Agents -> Run command. I'll enter this as a bug. -Frank

morning. I found the network interface adaptor on the motherboard had

I gave the presentation at last night's eBIG user group meeting in  
Oakland, California. This is a Java user group and I felt very much  
at home. The group was very small (about 10 people) and they made up  
for size with the quality of their questions and attention. This was  
the first public demonstration of PushToTest TestMaker Version 5.  
TestMaker 5 got a very good reception from the group.

- They understood the power of being able to build a test on their  
development machines and giving it to a QA person to stage a load test.

- They liked the Data Production Library (DPL) system.

- Two of the attendees said they tried TestMaker 4 and gave up on it  
because of its complexity. Both said they will download TestMaker 5  
and try again.

- They liked the idea of dynamic scripting support but were really  
wanting to implement their tests in Java.

And I took feedback and suggestions on how to further improve the  
feature set.

- Enhanced root-cause analysis using Glassbox, a utility that uses  
JMX to gather information from a running application to do root cause  
analysis. They strongly recommended integrating Glassbox into the  
Monitor system and results charts.

- Logging to a database, they want us to log directly into a database  
table and for us to publish the schema so they can write custom  
reports (using Jasper and others). They also suggested that we  
include the Derby DB in TestMaker. They also pointed me to DB4O.com.

- Better results analysis, two of the attendees were from large  
companies that have budgets for testing tools, so they compared  
TestMaker to Mercury LoadRunner. I heard comments like "The only  
thing I like about LoadRunner is its results analysis, you can slice  
and dice the data in so many ways." I told them about the Performance  
Comparison Utility and they said that would be very helpful.

- Agent-less monitoring, they asked why we would do CPU/Net/Memory  
monitoring with an agent versus just using an SNMP trap. They don't  
want to install agents for monitoring.

- TestNode option to run on JDK 1.5, they have run into problems  
using JAX-WS on JDK 1.6, specifically the XML parsing has  
incompatibilities. They would like an option to run a TestNode with  
JDK 1.5 and only operate Java or Jython tests in this mode. So no  
ScriptEngine support in exchange for running their existing unit  
tests written in Java on a TestNode.

I'll put the above items into http://bugs.pushtotest.com as  
enhancements.

Hi Joseph: TestMaker 4.3.1 is pretty limited in its ability to  
"record" a test from a WSDL definition. TestMaker 5 provides soapUI  
as a graphical utility to visually create SOAP-based TestScenarios.

 and the introduction of new controller.

               I was looking for TestNode_Install.jar and
Monitor_Install.jar for Test Network and Service monitoring
functionalities.
I dint find that along with the PushToTest_TestMaker_Install.jar. When
we start the test maker it says monitor is not installed.

               For conducting distributed testing I need to have
TestNode_Install.jar the agent running on remote machine, which is
not there along with the package. I would be thankful to you if you can
let me know where I can get it from. Or should I have to install
TestMaker5
on the remote machine.
