From fcohen at pushtotest.com Tue Jul 3 17:01:00 2007 From: fcohen at pushtotest.com (Frank Cohen) Date: Tue Jul 3 18:45:07 2007 Subject: [ptt-users] TestMaker 5 beta 2 now available Message-ID: I'm very happy to tell everyone that PushToTest TestMaker version 5 beta 2 is now available for download. The new beta is likely to be the last before we declare TestMaker 5 final and stable. Beta 2 solves all of the bugs from Beta 1, includes the preliminary documentation, and includes the Java Runtime Environment 1.6. http://www.pushtotest.com/Docs/r5 One thing we found today is that TestMaker 5 beta 2 requires the Java Development Kit to be installed to operate tests. The JDK is available for free download at http://java.sun.com. Beta 3 will run with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and solve this issue. -Frank -Frank -- Frank Cohen, PushToTest, http://www.PushToTest.com, phone 408 374 7426 TestMaker: The open-source SOA governance and test automation tool From dominique.dewaleffe at denali.be Thu Jul 5 07:50:19 2007 From: dominique.dewaleffe at denali.be (Dominique de Waleffe) Date: Thu Jul 5 09:35:33 2007 Subject: [ptt-users] Testmaker 5 B2 Message-ID: <468D052B.2070405@denali.be> Hi, I imagine some of you are also trying to use the new version of testmaker, so I post here before filing this as a bug hoping to get some info first on how to progress... I have installed B2 on Windows Xp. I was trying to have a scenario recorded via testgen4web, and imported from the menu [import tesgen4web], thus translated to jython, run as an agent so I clicked on the 'run agent' menu. TM said it needed to initialize some stuff for scripting. Then TM was in a strange state (could not edit files anymore,....) I thus stopped it and tried restarting. Now TM seems to start but dies without having opened anything and without leaving a single message on the console... Has anyone seen this? Is there a log file anywhere? What should I do? I hope re-installing will solve this but if I can first find some extra info for debugging this state, that would help. Any hints? The script I recorded is against an internal application, however there is nothing secret about the script and I believe nothing special about it... I sort of found a way out of this (and reported bugs on trac related to the issue). - It appears that the TestMaker.properties file got somehow corrupted (but I can't see what's wrong). So I moved it away and was able to start again... (trac issue 85). Found that this was related to the properties file by starting under jdb but could not pinpoint more precisely the problem... - I could start the tesgen4web directly without importing it - I could not however run the imported as jython file derived from the above script (trac issue 86) > > By the way, I'll be on vacation until Sunday (it's the US Independence > Day weekend here.) Message-ID: <468E3DBC.3040203@denali.be> Continuing my explorations of TM5-B2, In the script I recorded, tg4w wrote: as selector. When I run the script in Firefox with recorder, it runs successfully, however, when run through htmlunit, I get a null pointer exception in the click action ( TestGenForWeb.java:153: prints Elem null) I suspect the difference of behaviour (in this case) may be linked to the treament of white space around the text of interest. Could the translation of @cdata=value be more liberal in what it matches as text? at least, stripping the white space around the contents. So it looks like the behaviour is different and thus the xpaths recorded are not reliable when run under htmlunit. This is annoying... I then tried to record the xpath directly using xpather (FF extension) and plug it into the script definition. This lead to an other type of problem: the normalizeXpath() is not very robust when presented an XPATH not coming from TG4W (it fails if an element does not have a [, or if values are delimited with single quotes). Examples: 1) oldXpath */div[@id="PageContainer"]/div[@id="content"]/*/tr[3]/*/td[1]/table/tbody/tr/td/span/a newXpath "//div[@id="PageContainer"]/div[@id="content"]//tr[3]//td[1]//////" Error getting page Expected one of '.', '..', '@', '*', org.jaxen.XPathSyntaxException: Expected one of '.', '..', '@', '*', 2) if the path contains div[@id='PageContainer'] then the line sb.append(subPart.substring(subPart.indexOf("="),atIndex+1)); throws an invalid index exception (since we have been looking for ") Any ideas on how to address this issue globally? Message-ID: <269443236E16F94FBDE31D22174C9A00088E813E@VS5.EXCHPROD.USA.NET> Greetings TestMaker folks, I've got a script that I intend to run for days. Problem is, I can't seem to get more than a few hours out of it before I see a crash. I strongly suspect out of memory issues - in particular some sort of quasi-memory leak, but in the land of garbage collected languages I'm not sure where to dive into the debugging project. The script has already reached steady state - e.g. it shouldn't be consuming any more memory over time, so I expect if I simply gave it more RAM i'd just see the same thing after 2x/3x the time. This is an xstest load test, concurrency 5. The test lasts longer if I run it in isolation, e.g. not xstest, no concurrency. Are there any jython debugging tools that i can bring to bear on this problem? I assume a java debugger will be less than useful working on jython code - that may or may not be the case. I'm passing these custom params to the java cmdline: "-Xss512k" "-Xmx786m" "-Xms512m" "-Xloggc:normal.gc" I see some posts on the list that suggest additional jvm parameter tweakage, though I don't want to jump into that without some better idea of what to look for better than "crashes less". :) Here's what makes me think OOM issue - the normal.gc file has this suspicious-looking last couple of lines: 12253.361: [GC 468969K->442242K(520512K), 0.0147440 secs] 12254.335: [GC 474398K->444539K(520512K), 0.0136325 secs] 12254.659: [GC 467912K->452165K(520512K), 0.0144070 secs] 12254.746: [GC 479367K->478015K(520512K), 0.0238662 secs] 12256.050: [GC 510527K->498399K(539296K), 0.0281709 secs] 12256.078: [Full GC (that's not a copy/paste error; the rest of the line that starts "Full GC" is blank). >From the console window I get this: # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d6fe620, pid=6976, tid=5296 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_10-b03 mixed mode) # Problematic frame: # V [jvm.dll+0xce620] # # An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid6976.log # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp Thanks in advance! seth -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This can be done with sys.path.append("/path/to/directory/string") and the module of interest resides in the /path/to/directory/string directory. In the case of the classpath definition, TestMaker.sh calls another shell script called TMCP.sh found in TestMaker/utils which will define the classpath for TestMaker. In your case, using package com.pushtotest.tool to find the class called HTMLUnit, I'm sure that com.pushtotest.tool exists in your classpath, therefore this is not likely your issue since several TestMaker tools rely on this package. What I do not know, however, is in which package HTMLUnit actually resides. Mac OS X users still need to use the Apple provided Java 1.6-DP developer release. http://www.pushtotest.com/Docs/r5 We have been using TestMaker 5 for weeks now and are confident in its ability and stability. We intend to issue a Release Candidate 1 (RC1) in about a week. -Frank From fcohen at pushtotest.com Sun Jul 29 21:39:09 2007 From: fcohen at pushtotest.com (Frank Cohen) Date: Sun Jul 29 23:29:50 2007 Subject: [ptt-users] Vote: TestMaker features Message-ID: Hi Everyone: We're pretty much finished building TestMaker 5.0. We will distribute the first Release Candidate this week. Our attention is turning to features and functions beyond TestMaker 5.0. Would you please vote (+1, 0 -1) on your need to have the following features in TestMaker: - soapUI as IZPack module download (soapUI would be downloadable at install-time instead of bundled with the main installer.) - Logging to a Relational Database with a published schedule (to allow other results analysis tools) - System and resource monitoring (such as with http://www.Hyperic.com) - Application layer resource monitoring (such as http:// www.Glassbox.com) - "PushToTest Web", a new product that lets you build, schedule, and analyze results through a Web browser. Plus PushToTest TestMaker would include an integrated database to store Test Scenarios, resources, and scripts. - Improved Results Analysis - Agent-less monitor (using SNMP) - SIP protocol handler - PushToTest TestMaker delivered as an Eclipse Plug-in - PushToTest as an ESB plug-in adaptor (using Mule) - Regression testing (using Selenium) Feel free to propose your own needed features. Thanks!
